A man died on Monday afternoon after being knocked down by a vehicle on the N2 between Mount Ayliff and Kokstad, Eastern Cape police said.

Inspector Mungisi Matidane said the man, between the ages of 60 and 70, was trying to cross the road towards Puka around 2pm.

"According to witnesses, the man proceeded despite their attempts to warn him of an oncoming vehicle," said Matidane.

A case of culpable homicide has been opened at the Mount Ayliff police station. - Sapa
